Ashtanga Yoga Class Instructor

    The Academy of Sport at London South Bank University are looking for an Ashtanga Instructor who is punctual, reliable and enthusiastic to help teach on a regular and ongoing basis as part of our Revitalise exercise class programme. The class will be delivered to LSBU Students and Staff, and local community users. Based in the Sports Centre on our Southwark Campus at Elephant & Castle.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    1.Responsible to the Duty Manager Sport and Recreation for the running and supervision of the Sports Centre’s Ashtanga Yoga sessions.

    2.To ensure classes begin and end at the advertised times and that only authorised users participate.

    3.To act in accordance with sector best practice, and NGB guidelines and code of conduct

    4.To be responsible for the safety of all participants including ensuring the safe use of equipment, communicating any faults to the Duty Manager Sport and Recreation

    5.To solicit feedback from users for the furtherance of the session/ programme.

    6.To liaise with the Duty Manager Sport and Recreation and the Facilities Manger in the development of these sessions.

    7.To regularly communicate with the Duty Manager Sport and Recreation over the development of the session, including session planning and maintaining attendance records as appropriate.

    8.Any other duties appropriate to the role, as directed by the Duty Manager Sport and Recreation.


    ESSENTIAL

    Experience of delivering Ashtanga Yoga Sessions and working in an environment dealing with a broad range of users.

    Knowledge of the issues relating to health and safety in the delivery of Ashtanga Yoga sessions.

    Good communication skills, able to relate to a wide variety of different types of user

    Have demonstrable leadership skills and be able to develop the session

    DESIRABLE

    First Aid qualification

    Knowledge and understanding of fitness training relating to other classes or services provided by the Sports Centre

    Experience in planning for development of Ashtanga Yoga

    QUALIFICATIONS

    BWY (or equivalent) Teaching Qualification
    Personal liability insurance
    Instructors may be required to undertake a Criminal Records Bureau check
