To initiate and co-ordinate baseball and softball national development programmes across the country in accordance with the BaseballSoftballUK Whole Sport Plan. Key work areas include: Higher Education, Further Education and Adult Leagues.
The Job
The job involves initiating and coordinating the development of baseball and softball across the country. Reporting to the Head of Development, the National Development Manager will lead on areas of Higher Education, Further Education and Adult Leagues which are important to growing participation in baseball and softball. These three intervention areas will account for the majority of the growth targets agreed with Sport England and this role is pivotal in shaping our future and determining the success of the organisation against our planned outcomes.
You will work within the National Development team, alongside national leads on club development, coaching and logistics to ensure an integrated approach to baseball and softball development and delivery across the country. You will also help shape and support the work and partnership-building of our regional development staff, across our four focus regions.
Key to this will be establishing relationships with key partners in the HE, FE and Corporate sectors, working closely with Sport England's sector leads and strategically leading the regional staff in the delivery of national interventions leading to our growth outcomes.
You will be working with a wide range of existing member volunteers, clubs and leagues. Key to your role will be working to set up adult coed (mixed men and women) slowpitch softball leagues and teams. You will be working with universities, colleges as well as national higher and further education sports bodies, to develop baseball and softball opportunities including inter and intra mural leagues.
You will be responsible for understanding the success and impact of the three key areas on the delivery of the Whole Sport Plan, the collection of relevant development and performance data and for contributing to the development of national and regional delivery plans.
You will also provide support for all BSUK programmes when needed and advise and assist clubs’ and leagues' development strategies.
The Person
As well as the more formal skills and experiences detailed on the Person Specification below, you will need to be an outgoing, presentable baseball and/or softball enthusiast. You will have or will quickly develop a positive attitude to ‘multi-tasking’ as you will be constantly juggling a varied workload. A ‘self starter’ who can handle a heavy work programme with set targets to achieve, you will need to be committed to working long hours including many evenings and some weekends.
The role is challenging and demanding - a lot will be expected of you by the local baseball and softball community and BSUK.
