FreeSport provides free sporting opportunities to Londoners of all ages and abilities to encourage greater participation in sport and physical activity in the build up to the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and beyond.
FreeSport comes under the PlaySport London programme, as part of the Mayor’s Plan ‘A Sporting Future for London’ helping organisations all over London deliver a grass-roots sporting legacy for London.
Sports clubs and organisations, youth and community groups can apply for grants of up to £1,500 and to receive extra information and marketing materials to make their activities even more successful. Funding is available for a variety of sports and physical activities. The aim of FreeSport is to increase the number of people regularly taking part in sport across the capital, with a particular focus on participants receiving 6 hours or more coaching as a result of taking part in the programme.
As a Mayoral programme, the Greater London Authority is working with Interactive and Pro-Active London Partnerships to build on the success of last year’s programme. The 2010 programme supported 280 activities giving people across London the opportunity to take part in a wide range of free sport and physical activities.
Each Pro-Active Partnership will be holding application surgeries designed to give you help and guidance for completing your application form. You can find details of your nearest surgery here.
