Central London CSPAN funding bids get the green light

Seven CSPANs projects approved in principle.

With support from PRO-ACTIVE Central London all seven Central London Community Sport & Physical Activity Networks have received in principle approval for outline projects submitted for Sport England funding.

Each CSPAN developed and compiled a range of potential projects, based on their strategic priorities and the list of approved projects is as follows:

Islington
Park & estates based coaching and competition/ Festival/ disabled people/ community exercise classes

Camden
Disabled people - develop existing and new club and sessional multi-sport activity - especially swimming

Westminster
Neighbourhood sports & physical activity programme around renewal partnerships
Activity programme to support new climbing centre/community gym - Seymour LC
Tennis and mini-tennis facility and programme - Paddington Rec

Kensington and Chelsea
Targeted community programme in specific wards - 55+, disabled people, BME, low paid. Increasing promotion of activity, increasing volunteering and improving co-ordination of coaching and support to clubs

Wandsworth
Athletics/facility development - Tooting Bec
Stay Fit 4 Life - 45+ years multi-sport programme linking to local clubs

Lambeth
Estate based activity - young people/women/older people/training community 'champions'
Community basketball - girls & women/school-college league

Southwark
Inclusive & Active - Disabled Adults - clubs/coaching/pathways
Older adults - outreach workshops/courses
Women & Girls - activity, sport & healthy eating

The next stage is to work up the initial ideas into fully funded and sustainable projects by February 2008. If all the projects are successful they will attract a total of 1.3m of Community Investment funding over the period 2008-11.
